Jackets’ Wennberg remains in Vancouver as Columbus visits Calgary

The Columbus Blue Jackets will have forwards Boone Jenner and Jeremy Morin in the lineup tonight when they visit the Calgary Flames this afternoon.

The news isn’t as good for center Alexander Wennberg.

Wennberg arrived at the team’s practice in Vancouver on Friday with a swollen, infected hand and was told to remain in Vancouver as the team travelled to Calgary.

The 20-year-old has three goals and 16 points in 61 games this season with the Jackets.

According Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, Jackets’ coach Todd Richards said Wennberg suffered a cut recently that required stitches, and the wound has become infected.

Jenner, who has six goals and six assists in 20 games this season, has missed 40 games due to a stress fracture in his back.

Morin, 23, missed 25 games due to an upper body injury. He has a goal and three points in 17 games with Columbus this season.

In a separate transaction the club reassigned Ryan Craig to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons.

Columbus won its only other meeting with Calgary 3-2 on Oct. 17.

The Flames enter Saturday’s action with a one-point lead on the L.A. Kings for the third seed in the Pacific Division.

Penguins news: Sidney Crosby expects to play this year, team calls up 4 players

The Pittsburgh Penguins managed to win a nice chunk of games without Sidney Crosby and/or Evgeni Malkin this season, but it seems like that lack of offensive punch started to rear its ugly head in their last two games.

Crosby addressed the media about his recovery today, saying that he hopes to return this season but there is “no timetable” for his return.

Crosby admits that it is “impossible to gauge” how long it will take for him to return, but he sure hopes that he’ll play again this season.

NHL.com provides video footage of Crosby’s discussion with the media.

In other Penguins news, the team recalled four players from Wilkes-Barre/Scanton today: Ryan Craig, Nick Johnson, Brett Sterling and Joe Vitale. Maybe they’ll get a shot in the arm from the likes of Sterling? Chances are the team, needs to improve via trade, but you cannot blame Ray Shero for seeing what happens with these minor leaguers.
