Mike Milbury

Mike Milbury’s rant on elbowing

Eric Staal’s elbow on Tomas Plekanec might get some attention from the league, but Plekanec’s “reaction” certainly drew Mike Milbury’s ire. Delight in his rambunctious reaction to that hit and recent suspension-related trends (“Suspend me for liking it”) and relish Keith Jones’ attempt to play the devil’s advocate:

Staal ended up having a great game as his two goals helped trigger a 5-3 comeback win for the Carolina Hurricanes. Should the elder Staal brother sit out a couple games with a suspension for the hit, just get a fine or nothing at all?

Perhaps more importantly: do you find yourself aligned with Milbury’s viewpoint or do you oppose it? Share your thoughts in the comments (but try to be nice, please).

(Editor’s note: I might steal Milbury’s “Cry me a concussion river” line either way.)

Jones, Milbury on the slumping Blackhawks

Chicago Blackhawks v Phoenix Coyotes

Mike Milbury and Keith Jones pontificate about the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, who are dealing with some injuries and an eight-game suspension. Milbury wonders if GM Stan Bowman might get a little antsy and make some changes amid his team’s tough times:

An eight-game skid can cast a shadow of misery over many locker rooms. CSNChicago.com’s Chris Boden reveals that that Blackhawks are finding a way to have some fun in practice despite their slumping ways. Allegedly non-endangered coach Joel Quenneville discussed the infusion of levity.

“We tried to have a pulse that’s positive,” Quenneville said. “Coming off two tough road trips here, the mood’s down, and low, and we tried to instill some positive things, some fun drills, and try to get a little life.”

One thing lost in their ugly streak is that they’ve played seven of eight games away from the United Center – and things won’t get better immediately with a three-game trip beginning tomorrow. Perhaps some of Chicago’s early success was a bit of a mirage related to some home-heavy stretches, but there’s nothing wrong with a recent championship team lightening the mood.

After all, a little positivity might go a long way once the playoffs start and season records only matter so much.

Milbury: Devils are sending a message with hot run

The New Jersey Devils edged the New York Rangers in a tight, contentious 1-0 game last night. That win gives the Devils five victories in a row, placing them fifth in the East.

Mike Milbury believes that the Devils are sending a message with their physicality while Keith Jones wonders if John Tortorella was wise to rile his divisional opponents up. Milbury also gets a little testy with host Russ Thaler, which is always good TV:

Breaking down possible NHL trade bait

Buffalo Sabres v New Jersey Devils

Once the 2012 All-Star Weekend is over, it’s likely that the media and fans’ attention will turn almost completely to wacky trade rumors. In the video below, Mike Milbury and Keith Jones take a look at which players might be available for a swap, from Vinny Prospal to Ryan Malone to even a higher-level guy like Derek Roy.

Oh yeah, they also discuss the possibility of the Nashville Predators desperately trading Ryan Suter and Shea Weber (Milbury isn’t buying it, for one).

Milbury has no beef with Ovechkin missing All-Star Game

As you probably know, Alex Ovechkin won’t attend the 2012 NHL All-Star Game. Mike Milbury seems A-OK with his decision while Keith Jones is more than a bit bummed that the hockey world won’t be treated to his antics:
