Hiller back in for Calgary

The Flames will start Jonas Hiller for the second time in as many nights on Monday when they take on the Stars in Dallas.

Hiller went nearly two weeks without a start before Flames head coach Bob Hartley gave him the nod yesterday in Nashville, and Hartley’s decision proved a wise one; Hiller stopped 27 of 29 shots in a crucial 5-2 victory, pushing Calgary past L.A. for third place in the Pacific Division.

Prior to Hiller taking the net, Karri Ramo was the Flames’ goalie of record in five straight games, going 2-1-2 over that stretch.

For the Stars, Kari Lehtonen is likely to be back in goal after stopping 33 of 36 shots in an OT win over Vancouver on Saturday.

Flames jump back into third in Pacific, beat Preds

Michael Ferland

After falling behind 1-0, the Calgary Flames scored four straight Sunday to defeat the Nashville Predators 5-2.

Michael Ferland’s first career NHL goal was the game-winner.

With the win, Calgary takes over the third seed in the Pacific Division passing the L.A. Kings. The Kings have a game in hand.

After Roman Josi opened the scoring, Lance Bouma, Kris Russell, Ferland and Jiri Hudler scored for the Flames giving Calgary a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Bouma added an empty-netter with less than a minute remaining. Deryk Engelland had two assists in the win.

Seth Jones had the other Predators goal.

Jonas Hiller made 27 saves for the win. Carter Hutton stopped 25 shots in the loss.

The Predators, who clinched a playoff spot on Saturday, had their four-game winning streak snapped.

Preds’ captain Shea Weber missed his second consecutive game due to a lower body injury.

Goalie Nods: Wings will start Mrazek for second straight day

Petr Mrazek

Detroit sticks with Petr Mrazek

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard’s recent slump has been bad enough spark speculation about him potentially losing the starting job to 23-year-old netminder Mrazek. That debate only intensified after Mrazek posted a 23-save shutout against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.

Under these circumstances, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock has decided to start Mrazek against the New York Islanders despite the lack of rest. The only other time Detroit attempted to start Mrazek on back-to-back days this season, he allowed three goals on seven shots to the Buffalo Sabres before being pulled just 13:37 minutes into the second game.

There’s no word yet on who the Islanders will counter with.

Capitals at Rangers: Braden Holtby vs. Cam Talbot

Panthers at Senators: Craig Anderson will start for Ottawa; Roberto Luongo is the probable goaltender for Florida.

Bruins at Hurricanes: Tuukka Rask is expected to be fine for today’s game after dealing with dehydration issues on Saturday, so there’s a fair chance he’ll be between the pipes for Boston. Carolina will likely go with Anton Khudobin after using Cam Ward on Saturday, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

Flames at Predators: Jonas Hiller is confirmed for Calgary while there’s a fair chance Nashville will counter with Pekka Rinne.

Ducks at Devils: It’s not know who Anaheim will start, but Cory Schneider will be in goal for New Jersey.

Sharks at Penguins: Alex Stalock vs. Marc-Andre Fleury

Blackhawks at Jets: Corey Crawford vs. Ondrej Pavelec
