Goalie nods: Dubnyk goes again for Wild in key game vs. Flames

All the latest from the blue paint…

All Devan, all the time

Devan Dubnyk has been the goalie of record for Minnesota since coming over from Arizona two weeks ago, and that won’t change tonight when the Wild face the Flames in Calgary.

Dubnyk, who’s posted a .911 save percentage and 2.04 GAA in five games, is coming off a 2-1 win over Edmonton in which he stopped 23 of 24 shots. He’ll need a similar performance tonight if the 12th-place Wild want to stay within striking distance of the eighth-place Flames, who are currently seven points up in the standings:

For Calgary, Jonas Hiller starts in goal.

Preds at Blues: Carter Hutton vs. Brian Elliott

Sabres at Oilers: Jhonas Enroth vs. Ben Scrivens

Ducks at Sharks: Ilya Bryzgalov likely for Anaheim, Antti Niemi likely for San Jose.

Ducks coach hopes All-Star snub acts as ‘motivation’ for Andersen

Arizona Coyotes v Anaheim Ducks

Frederik Andersen didn’t get selected to go to the 2015 All-Star game, despite 24 wins, which is second amongst all NHL goalies.

His coach in Anaheim, Bruce Boudreau, admitted the snub to his No. 1 goalie was a tad surprising, even though there have been some tremendous seasons being put in by other puck stoppers across the league, as outlined here.

“You’re talking to a guy that’s seen him play all the time,” Boudreau told the Orange County Register.

“Of course, I’m surprised. I’d like a lot of our guys to have been selected. I think we’ve got the kind of record that merits more than one person going to the All-Star game but it isn’t.

“Hopefully it’s motivation for Freddie to say ‘I’ll show you.’ He deserves it but he’s not going to it.”

The Ducks defeated the New Jersey Devils on Friday. Andersen was given the night off, as Ilya Bryzgalov was given the start, making 14 saves in a 5-1 Anaheim victory.

Goalie nods: Halak vs. Fleury in battle of All-Star replacements

Jaroslav Halak

All the latest from the blue paint…

Halak to face Fleury

Interesting sidebar to tonight’s Penguins-Islanders game at Nassau — Marc-Andre Fleury and Jaroslav Halak, named as replacement All-Stars for Pekka Rinne and Jimmy Howard yesterday, will square off in a key Metropolitan Division showdown.

The Isles head into tonight’s action one point up on the Pens, and much of that has to do with Halak’s play this year; he’s won nine of his last 11 starts and has been very good against Pittsburgh this season, posting a 1.52 GAA and .954 save percentage through two head-to-head matchups.

Fleury has been equally strong this season, especially against the Isles — he’s secured three of a possible four points with a 2.40 GAA and .929 save percentage.
