Goal of the Week

Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin wins Goal of the Week (February 28-March 6)

Every week, Pro Hockey Talk will ask our readers to choose the best goal and save of that seven-day period. Sometimes there might not be seven nominees, whether that be because there weren’t enough great clips or one person received multiple awards. Either way, readers ultimately get to choose each week’s lucky winners.

Only the staunchest Alex Ovechkin haters are unhappy to see the return of the “Old Ovechkin.” OK, maybe he’s not quite at his former 100+ point level – or perhaps the Washington Capitals’ lean toward defense might keep him wrapped up a bitbut that sense of danger is back.

Ovechkin scored the Goal of the Week for February 28-March 6th, as you can see from the poll results below.

Vote for the Goal of the Week (February 28-March 6)

Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Nikolai Khabibulin

To celebrate the best moments of each week, we’ll put up a poll to see which goal/save/whatever was the most amazing of a given seven days. We might not always have one per day and sometimes there will be more than seven to choose from, but all you need to do is vote for your favorite.

Because putting a handful of videos in one post will bog down some internet connections, we’ll simply insert a link to each post.

Concussions are a legitimate problem in hockey just like most sports, there’s not much debate about that.

Yet amid the hysteria regarding Sidney Crosby’s issues, it’s important to note that for every Marc Savard disaster, there’s a recovery story such as that of Patrice Bergeron or Pierre-Marc Bouchard.

That doesn’t mean that either of those shifty centers are out of the woods for good, but it shows that it’s far from impossible to play at or around previous levels after a concussion. As you can see from the video clip at the bottom of this post, “PMB” is back in a big way for the Minnesota Wild.

Here is the poll that Bouchard dominated.

Note: there is still time to vote for Save of the Week here.

With his astounding stickhandling skills and consistent sense of magic, it almost seems like Pavel Datsyuk should win Goal of the Week awards all the time. There are times when it seems like all he does is score beautiful goals, as if he’s capable of nothing else.

Check out the poll results from his February 14-20th Goal of the Week win below.
