NHL hands out fines, including for Byfuglien slash

Be sure to visit NBCOlympics.com and NBC Olympic Talk for full hockey coverage from PyeongChang.

The NHL’s CBA makes for quite the variety of allowable fines, as Wednesday’s verdicts from the Department of Player Safety showed.

  • Dustin Byfuglien is $5K poorer after being fined for a slash on Jay Beagle from a physical 4-3 overtime win for the Jets against the Capitals. You can see footage of those slashes in the video above this post’s headline; Beagle was clearly shaken up during the play. Read more about that situation at NBC Sports Washington.

  • During that same game, Madison Bowey delivered a hard hit on Matt Hendricks. The NHL fined Bowey $1,890.68 for interference. Russian Machine Never Breaks has footage of that check.
  • Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland was fined $2,688.17 for a cross-check on Brandon Saad of the Chicago Blackhawks. Footage of that infraction isn’t available at the moment.
