Nate Schmidt hasn’t played a game for the Vegas Golden Knights yet, but the two sides are already at an impasse when it comes to contract negotiations.

Schmidt and the Golden Knights are scheduled to have an arbitration hearing on Thursday, and Elliotte Friedman has figured out exactly how far apart both sides are at this point.

According to Friedman, Vegas is offering a two-year deal worth $950,000 in the first year and $1 million in the second year. The player is looking for a one-year contract worth $2.75 million.

The 26-year-old was more of a depth player during his time in Washington, but he’ll likely be counted on to play important minutes for Vegas.

Last season, he had three goals and 17 points and a plus-22 rating while averaging 15:28 of ice time in 60 games with the Capitals.
