Hilary Knight scored the golden goal as the U.S. beat Canada, 3-2 in overtime, to win its fourth straight World Championship.

Just a couple of weeks ago the USA women’s hockey team did not know if it would be participating in this year’s world championship tournament as they went through a labor battle with USA hockey.

Not only did the team come out on top of that battle to avoid a boycott and participate in the tournament, they ended up going undefeated in the tournament and won their fourth consecutive gold medal in the tournament.

The latest championship run was completed on Friday night with a 3-2 win over Canada thanks to an overtime goal from Hilary Knight (shown above) on a rocket of a shot to clinch gold.

This is the eighth time in the past 10 years the United States has won gold at the tournament (they took home silver the other two times). All of those games involved the United States and Canada facing off.

Four of those 10 games were decided in overtime.

The United States finished this tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, outscoring its opponents by a 28-5 margin. Two of those wins came against Canada, including a 2-0 win in the opening game of the tournament.
