Islanders hold on for win vs. Devils ... but is Tavares hurt?

The New York Islanders kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win against the New Jersey Devils, but it might come at a significant cost.

Late in the third period, superstar John Tavares fell to the ice in pain and needed help off the ice. It’s so early that it’s difficult to tell what, exactly, might be ailing Tavares. He was clearly in anguish, though.

Perhaps it’s just a cramp? (It’s probably worse but ... optimism.)

The Islanders begin a four-game road trip on Sunday, with the end of the season being their lone remaining home contest vs. Ottawa. The Bruins own a four-point edge on the Islanders with the two teams each having five games left on their schedules.

So, it doesn’t look good ... especially if Tavares misses any of those remaining contests.

Update: The Islanders indicate that more will be known about their captain on Saturday.
