The Columbus Blue Jackets probably lost a defenseman for perhaps the rest of the regular season (Ryan Murray, broken hand) but are getting back a forward that has been sidelined for nearly a month.

The team announced on Monday morning that forward Matt Calvert has been activated from injured reserve and re-assigned T.J. Tynan to the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League.

Calvert has been sidelined since Feb. 12 due to an oblique strain, missing each of the Blue Jackets’ past nine games.

He’s only appeared in 51 games this season, scoring nine goals to go with two assists. On a per-game basis that production is a pretty significant drop from what he’s done in recent years for the Blue Jackets, as that 0.22 point per game average is the lowest of his career. He’s not had as big of a role this season with the Jackets having his ice-time cut down to about 13 minutes per game after playing more than 15 per game in each of the past three seasons.

The Blue Jackets are in Philadelphia tonight looking to bounce back from a 5-3 loss in Buffalo on Saturday.
