The Ottawa Senators were buyers at the NHL trade deadline in an effort to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and their most significant move had to be the addition of veteran forward Alex Burrows from the Vancouver Canucks.

They not only gave up a heck of a prospect (Jonathan Dahlen) to get him, but also immediately signed him to a two-year contract extension before he even played a single game with the team.

For one night, it all seemed to pay off.

Playing in his Senators debut on Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche, Burrows has already scored two goals to help lift his new team to a 2-1 win.

Here is a look at his first as he beats Avalanche goalie Calvin Pickard with a shot that, quite honestly, probably should have been stopped.

He was not done with that. Midway through the second period he scored his second of the night (and 11th of the season) when he found himself wide open in the slot.

After the game Senators coach Guy Boucher did not miss an opportunity to get in a little dig at critics of the trade, saying “I wonder what people think of the trade now.”
