--During All-Star weekend, Wayne Gretzky mentioned that Gordie Howe was the greatest player in NHL history. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Gretzky recalled the first time he met Howe. “I remember the first time I met Gordie Howe and my dad said, “How was it? I said, “He was better and bigger and nicer than I ever imagined in my head or my book reports, just a very surreal meeting and moment for me in my life. It changed my life.” (Sports Illustrated)

--Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of Bowman’s 1000th career victory. He accomplished the feat with the Red Wings on a Saturday night against his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Bowman said both teams loaded up their first line as they went head-to-head in an epic battle. “We matched up with Sergei Fedorov, Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan. I didn’t play them all the time but I remember vividly that I did that day, our best three forwards against their best three. Yzerman and Lemieux moved to the wings. It was a hang of a game, [6-5], Shanahan scoring in overtime. Imagine, six Hall of Famers facing each other -- if you include Jagr, who’ll be there.” (NHL.com)

--Jonathan Toews racked up a goal and two assists in last night’s 4-3 overtime win over the Minnesota Wild. The victory put an end to Chicago’s eight-game losing streak to the Wild. You can watch the highlights by clicking the video at the top of the page.

--Viktor Arvidsson isn’t a household name just yet, but his stock is trending that way in a hurry. Not only has Arvidsson provided the Preds with some solid offensive production, but his on-ice work ethic is inspiring his teammates. “He works so hard,” teammate Mike Fisher said. “He’s relentless with the puck and never gives up. It rubs off on a lot of people. That kind of work is contagious and it’s fun to watch, too.” (The Tennessean)

The ESPN hockey roundtable makes their picks for the greatest clutch player in the league today. Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane made the list, which isn’t a surprise, but so did Capitals forward Justin Williams. (ESPN)

--Not only did United Arab Emirates hockey star Fatima Al Ali get to meet Capitals players, she also got to practice with them on Wednesday morning. Even Alex Ovechkin had a hard time imitating some of her on-ice skills with the puck. (Yahoo)
