Lars Eller scores his ninth goal of the season for the Washington Capitals to put his team up 1-0 on the Los Angeles Kings early in the first period.

There will be no shutout for Los Angeles Kings goalie Peter Budaj on Sunday afternoon.

After giving up zero goals in back-to-back starts (and three of his past four), Budaj finally allowed a shot to get behind him early in the first period of Sunday’s game in Washington.

After a rare defensive zone breakdown by the Kings, Capitals forward Lars Eller found himself wide open front of the net and beat Budaj with a nifty little move for his ninth goal of the season.

For Budaj, that goal snaps his shutout streak at 147 minutes and 20 seconds. That streak started in the second period of the Kings’ game against Arizona on Jan. 31. After giving up two goals in that game (both in the first two periods) he shut out the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers in his next two starts to give him a league-leading seven on the season.

After giving up the goal to Eller early on Sunday, Marcus Johansson added to the Capitals lead to give them a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
