This is not the type of news the St. Louis Blues needed right now.

The team announced on Sunday afternoon that forward Robby Fabbri will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury. The team does not expect him to return until training camp.

Fabbri exited the Blues’ 4-1 loss to the Penguins in the first period after he was hit along the boards by Carter Rowney. Immediately after the hit Fabbri was unable to put any weight on his leg and needed assistance getting to the locker room.

Here is a look at the play.

With Fabbri sidelined, the team had to recall Kenny Agostino and Magnus Paajarvi from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Make no mistake, this is a big loss for the Blues at a really bad time. Fabbri, 21, is one of the team’s most talented forwards and has 11 goals and 18 assists in 51 games this season.

Entering play on Sunday the Blues were two points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference (and that gap could increase depending on what the Calgary Flames do on Sunday) and just underwent a coaching change this past week with Mike Yeo replacing Ken Hitchcock behind the bench. Now they have to play the remainder of the season without one of their top forwards.
