--Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds will be making his first All-Star appearance and it’ll be in his first NHL city, Los Angeles. Simmonds was anxious about being traded to Philadelphia, but now, he realizes it was the best thing for his career. “I think I’ve gotten a lot better since I was a Los Angeles King. My game has evolved. I do a lot more than when I was there. This is not for me at all one of those ‘look how much better I’ve become’ or one of those things, or they made a mistake; not at all. I’m definitely happy being a Philadelphia Flyer.” (NHL.com)

--The Nashville Predators unveiled a public service announcement called “Unsilence the Violence,” which will focus on raising money and awareness for women affected by abuse, sexual assault or domestic violence. “The best part of what we do as a franchise, we get to leverage the passion our teams have for our team, our logo and turn that into something better, and I can’t think of a better cause to be behind than stopping violence against women in our community,” said Preds president and CEO Sean Henry. --John Shannon put together a list of the top 25 power brokers in the NHL. Like last year, commissioner Gary Bettman is back at the top of this list, while Don Fehr climbed up the list this year.
