Roberto Luongo: funny on Twitter, all alone at fifth all-time in wins

Roberto Luongo pumps out funny tweets so often, it kind of distracts people from all the milestones he’s also piling up.

Monday was quite the night in that regard, as he out-dueled his buddy and former crease mate Cory Schneider in a 3-0 win for the Florida Panthers against the New Jersey Devils. The margin was actually a lot smaller, too, as two of Florida’s goals came on an empty net.

In blanking the Devils, Luongo earned the 448th win of his distinguished career, breaking his tie with Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk for fifth all-time in NHL history.

Here’s how the top five shakes out now:

1. Martin Brodeur - 691
2. Patrick Roy - 551
3. Ed Belfour - 484
4. Curtis Joseh - 454
5. Luongo - 448

Luongo’s also climbing up the shutout ranks.

This marks the 73rd of his career, where he’s ranked at 11. He can make some nice traction over the next couple seasons:

4. Glenn Hall - 84
5. Jacques Plante - 82
6 (tied) Alec Connell, Tiny Thompson and Dominik Hasek - 81
9 (tied) Ed Belfour, Tony Esposito - 76
11. Luongo - 73

So, yeah, Bobby Lou could really climb the ladder, giving the Panthers a new milestone-hoarder now that Jaromir Jagr is largely hitting the ceiling for what he can accomplish.

In other words, don’t let all the funny Tweets fool you. Luongo’s doing special things, and he can still get it done. Maybe even to enough of an extent for the Panthers to work things out.

The funny tweets are great too though, don’t get us wrong.
