As of this moment the 2017 NHL Winter Classic between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks is scheduled to be played on Monday afternoon in St. Louis.

What we do not know yet is when exactly the game will start.

The NHL announced on Sunday evening that it will offer an update on the start time of the game on 8 a.m. ET on Monday morning.

Puck drop is currently scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, but that could change tomorrow morning.

The problem the NHL is facing is the changing weather forecast that has the potential to produce inclement weather for the game. Forecasts on Sunday were calling for mild temperatures (perhaps into the 50s), light rain, and a potential thunderstorm. It would not be the first time a Winter Classic has been played in rain, as the 2010 game in Pittsburgh between the Penguins and Capitals was played through steady rainfall.

Sunday’s Centennial Classic in Toronto between the Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings had to be delayed for around 30 minutes due to conditions that were actually too sunny.

The weather in St. Louis is presenting the exact opposite issue.

If the weather is too severe and the game is unable to be played on Monday it is possible the game could be pushed back to Tuesday night.
