The NHL’s department of player safety has handed out its second two game suspension of the day.

The department announced on Sunday afternoon that Dallas Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak has been suspended two games for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde.

The incident happened midway through the third period just as VandeVelde recorded a shot on goal and Oleksiak came through the middle of the ice and delivered the hit.

He was not penalized for the play.

Here is a look at the play, as well as the explanation from the league.

Oleksiak will miss Sunday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks and Tuesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. He will be back in the lineup on Thursday against the New York Rangers.

The Stars ended up losing Sunday’s game 4-2.

Earlier on Sunday Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki was suspended two games for boarding Los Angeles Kings forward Tyler Toffoli.
