PHT Morning Skate: Andrew Shaw had a penalty box meltdown

-The Montreal Canadiens lost their game to the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night, while forward Andrew Shaw briefly lost his mind. The video above took place just after Shaw was penalized for hooking Sami Vatanen in the offensive zone with less than 30 seconds to play as the Canadiens pushed to try and tie the game. Once he reached the penalty box and saw a replay ... well ... the video above kind of tells the story. You do not need to be an expert lip reader to get the idea of what is being said there. That resulted in a 10-minute misconduct on top of that hooking penalty. The Canadiens were never able to tie the game on their way to a 2-1 loss. Shaw scored the only goal for the Canadiens. Between his penalties at the end, and his fight with Corey Perry, Shaw finished the night with 17 penalty minutes.

-Dave Strader, now the play-by-play announcer for the Dallas Stars, has been unable to call any games this season due to his ongoing battle with cancer. On Tuesday night he was able to meet with the team in Detroit before their game against the Red Wings and received the regional Emmy the broadcast team was awarded last season. Coach Lindy Ruff had him announce the starting lineup to the team before the game. (Dallas Morning News)

-A lot of big-time hockey is coming to Las Vegas this year. The American Collegiate Hockey Association approved UNLV’s elevation to men’s Division I status on Tuesday. (UNLV)

-The Nashville Predators continued their recent strong play on Tuesday with another five-goal effort in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche. After a disappointing start to the season in October the Predators were 9-3-2 in November and scored 46 goals (3.2 per game). They scored at least five goals five different times. Their most recent win came without their leading goal scorer, James Neal, and one of their top defenseman, Ryan Ellis. The team does not expect them to miss much more time. (Adam Vingan)

-Josh Anderson had a goal and two assists for the Columbus Blue Jackets in their 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night, but coach John Tortorella still wants to see more from his young forward. The Blue Jackets are one of the NHL’s biggest surprises this season with a 12-5-4 record. (Columbus Dispatch)

-The Philadelphia Flyers were able to come away with a shootout win over the Boston Bruins on NBCSN on Tuesday night (highlights here), while Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs followed it up with a big win over Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
