There are scoring slumps, and then there is whatever happened to Boston Bruins forward Jimmy Hayes over the past few months.

After going 35 consecutive games without a point -- not just a goal, but a point of any kind -- Hayes finally ended that drought on Sunday afternoon when he scored 17:33 into the second period against the Tampa Bay Lightning to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead.

For Hayes, it was his first goal -- and point -- since Feb. 24 of last season.

Have a look at it as he deflects the puck past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop, as well as his celebration as he rips the monkey off of his back.

Scoring slumps are common for every player, and it is not unheard of for even the best players to go five, six, or even seven or more games without scoring. But for a player like Hayes to go 35 games is kind of amazing because he has been a productive player in the NHL.

Two years ago he scored 19 goals in 72 games. Through the first 59 games last season he had 13 goals and 16 assists which had him on a pace to at least match the production from the previous year. And then he ended the season on a 16 game point drought that extended through the first 19 games of this season until it finally ended on Sunday.

The Bruins ended up winning the game, 4-1.
