The Boston Bruins announced on Thursday afternoon that rookie forward Noel Acciari will be out of the lineup for at least the next four weeks due to a lower body injury.

Acciari was injured in the third period of the Bruins’ 4-0 win in Buffalo on Monday and did not play the following night against the Montreal Canadiens.

After having an opportunity to further evaluate the injury, it was revealed on Thursday that he is going to now be out for an extended period of time.

The Bruins signed the 24-year-old Acciari as an undrafted free agent out of Providence College back in 2015. Since then he has appeared in 31 games for the Bruins, including 12 this season, recording three assists and 12 penalty minutes in his career.

He has spent most of this season playing on the Bruins’ fourth line with players like Dominic Moore and Tim Schaller. While he is not a big loss offensively, he has the potential to be an outstanding defensive forward. During his time at Providence College he was one of the best defensive forwards in the NCAA and has carried that play over to the NHL. Since the start of the 2015-16 season no Bruins forward has been on the ice for fewer total shot attempts against per 60 minutes than Acciari.
