This past week Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson unexpectedly left the team so he could attend to a personal matter. On Saturday, the team announced just how serious that personal matter is.
It was announced by general manager Pierre Dorion that Anderson had left the team after his wife, Nicholle, had been diagnosed with cancer.
Here is a clearly emotional Dorion explaining the situation, as requested by the Anderson’s.
Anderson is going to return to the team for the time being.
While Anderson was away from the team his backup goaltender, Andrew Hammond was injured, forcing the team to call up another goalie the AHL, it left the team with Chris Driedger and Matt O’Connor in net.
In the short-term, both Driedger and O’Connor will remain with the Senators in case Anderson has to leave the team again.
Hammond has been placed on injured reserve and will be out at least a week, according to Dorion.
