Looks as though Brenden Morrow is hanging up his skates.

Morrow, a 16-year veteran currently without a contract for this season, will make an announcement on Thursday through the Dallas Stars organization -- and, per the Morning News’ Mike Heika, it’s believed Morrow will officially retire from the NHL.

Morrow, 37, appeared in 991 games over a pretty solid career, most of which was spent with Dallas. He appeared in a pair of Stanley Cup Finals -- one with the Stars in his first year in the NHL, one with the Lightning in his last -- and captured gold with Team Canada at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

A former first-round pick, Morrow’s best year came during the 2007-08 campaign, when he posted a career-high 74 points, finishing seventh in Selke voting.

That effort came during the midst of his seven-year run as Dallas’ captain -- only Derian Hatcher had a longer stint wearing the “C” since the club moved from Minnesota.
