Pittsburgh has locked in one of its top AHL farmhands through 2018.

Carter Rowney, currently sitting second among Wilkes-Barre/Scranton skaters with 39 points in 58 games, has signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Pens, the club announced on Wednesday.

Rowney, 26, will carry a $612,500 cap hit at the NHL level.

An undrafted free agent out of North Dakota, Rowney caught on with the Pens organization in ’13-14, and has worked his way up from the ECHL to become a quality scorer at the AHL level.
