Road warriors: Bruins work overtime to defeat Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Loui Eriksson scored 33 seconds into overtime to lift the Boston Bruins over the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Torey Krug and David Krejci assisted on the goal, which helped the Bruins earned their seventh win in their past eight road games.

Patrice Bergeron also scored for Boston and Tuukka Rask made 28 saves.

Alexander Wennberg scored on a first-period penalty shot for the Blue Jackets.

Joonas Korpisalo made 28 saves for Columbus.

Columbus opened the scoring on its first penalty shot of the season.

Wennberg, who was hooked in front of the net by defenseman Zdeno Chara, headed to the right of the net and backhanded the puck over the left shoulder of Rask for his sixth goal of the season at 9:54 of the first period

The Bruins tied it at 14:28 of the first period when Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones backhanded a puck in the Columbus zone, right onto the stick of Bergeron, who rejoined the Bruins after missing two games because of an injury.

Bergeron gloved the puck down and fired from the circle past Korpisalo for his 22nd goal of the season.

After being outshot 14-9 in the first period, the Blue Jackets were more aggressive in the second period, with 10 shots on goal compared with eight for the Bruins.

In his first game back after missing 18 games because of an injury, Adam McQuaid had a tripping penalty at 11:56 of the second period.

But it quickly became 4-on-4 when Scott Hartnell was called for high sticking at 12:06, but both goalies kept the game tied.

NOTES: The Blue Jackets activated goaltender Curtis McElhinney from injured reserve to back up Korpisalo. Anton Forsberg was demoted to AHL Lake Erie. ... Eriksson scored the winner in his 700th NHL game. With his goal, Bergeron is just two points shy of 600 for his career.
