Artemi Panarin earned his first-career NHL hat trick with two goals in the third to break the tie and eventually beat NYR. The two teams traded goal flurries before Panarin's two with under three to play sealed the win.

Five goals and two lead changes in the final 20 minutes -- Wednesday’s game between the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers experienced an offensive outburst highlighted by a hat trick from rookie Artemi Panarin.

Earlier in the night, Panarin, 24, became the first NHL rookie to hit the 20-goal plateau this season.

By the end of the night, he had 22 goals on the season and the winner in this game, as the Blackhawks came back in the third period for a 5-3 victory.

The Blackhawks move back to the top of the Western Conference standings, one point ahead of the Dallas Stars.

Chicago opened up a two-goal lead through the second period, before the Rangers scored three straight times, including two goals in 1:53 early in the third period, to take the lead.

But as quickly as the Rangers grabbed the lead, the Blackhawks took it right back. And they didn’t give it up.

Andrew Shaw tied the game and Panarin put Chicago in the lead for good with his second of the game, with three minutes remaining in regulation. He capped off his first career hat trick with an empty net goal to secure the win.

Henrik Lundqvist made 15 saves on 19 shots faced.
