Barrie impressive: Avs clobber Kings 4-1

Jarome Iginla’s milestone goal will grab the headlines, but Tyson Barrie stole the show on Monday.

Barrie factored into all four Colorado Avalanche goals (two tallies, two primary assists) in an impressive 4-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings. Iginla, meanwhile, hit the 600-goal mark.

Here’s the second Barrie goal, which ended up standing as the game-winner for the Avs:

With the notable exception of Erik Johnson’s troubling injury, just about everything came up in the Avs favor in this one.

Barrie had that standout game and Iginla got that milestone out of the way after three failed bids. Semyon Varlamov stopped 30 out of 31 shots. Colorado’s power play was humming at a 3-for-5 success rate while the combination of Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon looked awfully dangerous.

The Kings? Maybe they’re a little tuckered out.

After squandering the first chunk of their homestand, the Avalanche need to make the most of their remaining stretch (four of five games in Colorado). They still have a long way to go to scratch and claw their way up the Central ranks, yet beating the Pacific’s best is a step in the right direction.
