Every game is critical for the Central Division adversaries given how stiff the competition is in that division. St. Louis holds the second seed with a 22-12-4 record, but just 10 points separate them and the sixth place Colorado Avalanche. In reality the gap is actually a little smaller given that the Blues have played in one more game than the Avalanche.

But while the Blues need to stay sharp to avoid slipping from their desirable spot near the top of the Central standings, Nashville’s position is more tenuous. The Predators’ 18-12-6 record would be good enough for the second spot in the Pacific Division, but it places them fifth in their division. Their record is still good enough to possess the second Wild Card seed, but with Colorado on the rise, Nashville needs all the points it can get.

Last games

Nashville: Won 5-3 over the New York Rangers. James Neal scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season.

St. Louis: Lost 3-0 to the Dallas Stars. Brian Elliott, who lost the starting job, was the tough luck loser as he turned aside 35 of 37 shots.
