For the second time this season, the Coyotes have waived John Scott.
Of course, this latest transaction is a bit more complex than the first.
Scott, as you may have heard, currently leads the NHL in All-Star Game voting, despite the fact he’s only appeared in nine games this year, averaging 6:16 TOI while registering just a single point.
The first time Scott was waived was in early October, as the Coyotes looked to create some roster flexibility.
After he cleared, the team was able to move him to and from its AHL affiliate in Springfield for 10 games (or 30 days, whatever came first) without him having to go through waivers again.
But a demotion to Springfield never came, as the club made it clear Scott would stick at the NHL level.
“John’s here and he’s not going anywhere,” coach Dave Tippett said at the time, per Arizona Sports.
Scott, 33, played in last night’s 7-5 loss to Columbus, and took three roughing penalties.
