Looks like the ‘Hawks have added some Marcus Kruger insurance.
The day after Kruger was hurt in a 4-0 win over Edmonton, Chicago recalled Philip Danault from AHL Rockford. Danault, 22, was the club’s first-round pick (26th overall) at the 2011 draft and made his big-league debut last year, appearing in a pair of games for the ‘Hawks.
This year, Danault has missed a ton of time following offseason hip surgery. It’s limited him to just six games with AHL Rockford, in which he’s scored a pair of points.
Danault will, presumably, be available for selection when the Blackhawks take on the Sabres in Buffalo on Saturday. No word yet on the severity of Kruger’s injury, or if it’ll sideline him for this weekend’s action.
Danault last fall: "Krugs is awesome. ... If the Hawks want me to be a Kruger, I’ll be a Kruger. But I’ll try to pave my own path."
