You know how Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford admitted to falling short when it came to furnishing his roster with puck-moving defensemen? He at least tried to address that problem on the same night that Mike Sullivan debuted as their head coach.

In an awfully interesting trade, the Penguins received Trevor Daley while Rob Scuderi heads to the Chicago Blackhawks ... along with some cap relief as well.

Here’s the official word from the Penguins.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie fills in some details: Pittsburgh retains $1.125 million of Scuderi’s cap hit.

Scuderi is a familiar face for the Blackhawks, as he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings during the two teams’ memorable playoff skirmishes. Chicago fans may be most excited about shaving off a bit more salary, as Daley and Scuderi bring home fairly comparable cash.
