Consistency and bounces needed, says Crosby of Kane’s 24-game point streak

Sidney Crosby knows a thing or two about what it takes to go on a prolonged point streak in the National Hockey League. He has one of 25 games, which Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane can match Friday against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins star recorded that 25-game point streak during the 2010-11 season.

“It’s impressive no matter what the game’s like, to be honest with you,” said Crosby, as per NHL.com.

“The consistency you need to have to be able to do that, it’s really tough. You need some bounces along the way, but to be that consistent game after game, it’s not easy. Everybody knows when they’re playing against them, that’s the guy they want to shut down. So for him to be able to continue to produce, yeah, that’s really impressive.”

Kane has 38 points during his current streak, and it has helped vault him to the top of the league in points (44) and second in the NHL in goals (18).

Of course, should Kane match Crosby’s point streak tonight, he’d still have an incredibly long way to go to reach the 51-game point streak held by Wayne Gretzky.

“If Patrick can keep this going, good for him. It’s great for hockey,” Gretzky said recently. “And if he gets to 50, 51, I’ll be the first guy to go to the game.”
