The Dallas Stars lost one of their key blueliners in last night’s shootout defeat to the Flames, as Jason Demers exited with an upper-body injury, and didn’t return.

Demers, who played just 12:23 before leaving, took his last shift late in the second period. It’s unclear exactly what the injury is, or how he got hurt.

The 27-year-old is a key cog on Dallas’ back end. He has four goals and 11 points through 22 games this season -- second among Stars d-men in scoring, behind John Klingberg -- and averages 20:30 TOI per night, third behind Klingberg and Alex Goligoski.

If Demers is hurt for any length of time, Dallas does have defensemen Patrik Nemeth and Jamie Oleksiak in reserve.

The Stars next play on Thursday in Vancouver, followed by a game the following night in Edmonton.
