NHL rescinds Savard’s misconduct for boarding Bobby Ryan

David Savard won’t be facing any supplemental discipline for his hit on Bobby Ryan last night -- in fact, he won’t even have the game misconduct on his rap sheet anymore.

Per the Columbus Dispatch, the NHL has rescinded Savard’s game misconduct and the $200 fine that comes with it. The Blue Jackets’ defenseman was given a five-minute boarding major and tossed during the third period of Thursday’s loss.

As the Dispatch notes, taking away the game misconduct is important -- two misconducts in the “physical fouls” category in a 41-game window results in a one-game suspension.

Thursday’s misconduct penalty was Savard’s first of the season.

The league’s decision will probably appease Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella, who didn’t think much of the call.

“It’s certainly not a major,” Tortorella said, per the team website. “I’m not even sure it’s a penalty.”
