Ryan Johansen’s readiness for the 2015-16 season has been a hot topic lately, yet there are reasons to monitor his health that go beyond curious ice time.

At some point during this past off-season, Johansen was hospitalized because of an accelerated heart rate, according to the Columbus Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline and Shawn Mitchell.

The phrasing is interesting in their report: particularly that it happened “at least once.”

Feel free to parse through the deeper details here, but things get a little fuzzier when you ponder how this may correlate to recent events.

Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen confirmed to the Columbus Dispatch that the hospital trip did happen, but Johansen’s current issues aren’t related to his heart.

The Blue Jackets star seems to be day-to-day at the moment, yet it’s difficult not to be a little worried about his future ... both in the short and long-term.

Stay tuned on this troubling situation, which is yet another difficult headline for a Blue Jackets team swamped by tough breaks.
