More on Blue Jackets’ struggles to make a trade

The latest edition of TSN’s Insider Trading aired on Tuesday night, and one of the most interesting bits expands upon the Columbus Blue Jackets’ tough time on the trade market.

Bob McKenzie trotted out the following facets of GM Jarmo Kekalainen’s failed bids:

  • The Blue Jackets are hoping to land a top-two defenseman, to which McKenzie said “good luck with that.”
  • For one thing, McKenzie said it’s a bad time to aim for a trade. That makes sense, as the season’s so young that most teams are probably still gauging their rosters and not quite panicking about any shortcomings.
  • There may be two prospects that could get something moving, but the Blue Jackets aren’t willing to part with Alexander Wennberg (pictured with Kekalainen) and Zach Werenski.

Not a huge surprise that Kekalainen is coming up empty in his attempts, especially since he’s asking for such a sought-after commodity without dangling his farm system’s most sought-after commodities.

To little surprise, McKenzie said that head coach Todd Richards is on the hot seat, especially if Columbus keeps losing (they’re facing a real challenge in the New York Islanders tonight).

Update: Perhaps something could happen, after all?
