Video: McDavid sets up Yakupov to open scoring against Canucks

Consistently finishing near the bottom of the standings appears to have its benefits.

Those perks were on full-display in the first period of Edmonton’s game against Vancouver, as a pair of former first overall picks connected on a beautiful goal.

As you can tell from the above video, McDavid takes control of the puck in the neutral zone and makes a nice move to split a pair of Canucks before dishing a perfect pass to Nail Yakupov, who promptly beats Ryan Miller with a one-timer.

It looks like McDavid’s adaptation to the NHL is going pretty well. The 18-year-old also had a three-point effort in Saturday’s win against Calgary.

After a few difficult seasons, the Oilers are hoping that their young stars can take them back to the postseason for the first time since 2006.

Canucks defenseman Matt Bartkowski tied the game just over 15 minutes later.
