Earlier this month, a potential feel-good story was brewing in Florida when the Panthers brought back former 30-goal scorer David Booth on a training camp tryout.

Turns out the story won’t have a happy ending.

Booth was release from his PTO today, per the Miami Herald. The decision comes after Panthers GM Dale Tallon made it clear Booth was battling with fellow camp invitee Martin Havlat and young prospect Connor Brickley for a spot at forward.

It’s possible Booth could go a similar route to the one Dan Paille took after he was released from his PTO with Chicago. Paille quickly inked a tryout with the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate in Rockford, in the hopes of sticking with the organization.
