The Boston Bruins got some good news on Friday, as Claude Julien announced that Zdeno Chara is considered day-to-day with a lower body injury.

Chara suffered the injury early in the first period of Thursday’s preseason game against the New York Rangers and there was no immediate indication as to the seriousness of the ailment. With Dennis Seidenberg (back) already out for a period of eight weeks, the Bruins could little afford to lose both veterans for an extended period of time.

Per CSNNE, Julien was clearly relieved that his captain didn’t suffer a serious injury, though he wouldn’t confirm if Chara would be ready for the start of the season.

Regardless how long Chara is out, the Bruins will head into this season with a revamped defense, as Dougie Hamilton and Matt Bartkowski have moved on to Western Canadian teams. Boston will have to give extra responsibilities to newcomer Matt Irwin and possibly a cast of young blueliners like Colin Miller, Joe Morrow and Zach Trotman.
