Both the Hamburg Police Department and Erie County Central Police Services have responded with statements following allegations of evidence-tampering in the Patrick Kane sexual assault case.

From the Hamburg Police Department, via Facebook:

“In regard to the information conveyed today by Mr. Thomas Eoannou, the Hamburg Police Department will cooperate with any authorized investigation regarding the handling of evidence and the procedure of such. That said, The Hamburg Police Department has documentation that unequivocally demonstrates that its handling of the evidence and the integrity of its chain of custody of evidence in this case is unassailable. As is policy with active investigations, there will be no further comment regarding this situation.”

And from Erie County Commissioner of Central Police Services John Glascott, via The Buffalo News:

“All evidence related to this case that was given to Erie County Central Police Services by the Town of Hamburg Police Department is accounted for and remains in its original packaging in the possession of Erie County Central Police Services. This includes the evidence in the rape kit and the packaging itself. This evidence has been analyzed and reports of that analysis sent to the appropriate agencies.”

The allegations of evidence-tampering were made earlier today by Eoannou, the lawyer representing the woman who has accused Kane of sexual assault.

“Yesterday, the rape-kit evidence bag was anonymously delivered to the home of my client’s mother,” Eoannou said. “We know this to be the evidence bag that once contained the rape-kit evidence. We know this. It contains my client’s birth date. It contains the location where the rape kit was done. And it confirms the nurse’s initials who performed the rape kit. It is authentic.”

Eoannou said that the bag was discovered “between the storm door and the door” of his client’s mother’s house, and that it had been “folded up in a number of small squares.”

Eoannou said that there was “absolutely nothing” in the bag.
