Report: California-based AHL teams to play 68 games next season

The American Hockey League’s five new California-based clubs will play just 68 games each next season while the rest of the league will continue to play 76.

According to Jon Rosen, AHL president and CEO David Andrews said travel costs and limiting the number of three games in three nights scenarios were reasons for the reduced schedule.

Rosen reports that the San Antonio Rampage and Texas Stars, who will also play in the Pacific Division next season, will each play 76 games.

In January the AHL announced a new Pacific Division, which includes teams in San Diego (Anaheim Ducks), Stockton (Calgary Flames), Bakersfield (Edmonton Oilers), Ontario (L.A. Kings) and San Jose (San Jose Sharks).
