Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog declined an invitation to play at next month’s World Hockey Championship due to a wrist injury.

On Friday Denver Post reporter Mike Chambers confirmed Landeskog recently underwent surgery on the wrist.

Landeskog declined to comment on the injury, but was sporting a soft cast on his left arm.

The 22-year-old had 23 goals and 59 points in 82 games this season.
