Veteran New Jersey Devils forward Scott Gomez found himself out of Friday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens after getting ejected for an elbowing major in the second period.

Although it appears the Devils believe that punishment handed out by the officials will be all that comes from this incident.

From the Star-Ledger:

The Devils do not expect Scott Gomez to receive any further punishment for his elbow to Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin’s mouth and subsequent game misconduct penalty Friday night at Prudential Center.

In fact, they were surprised Gomez got the major penalty in response to a shove from Emelin that sent the Devils’ center tumbling into the end boards a few moments earlier in the second period.

“I didn’t think it was bad when I saw it. I thought it was really exaggerated once I looked at it over,” Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said. “But that’s a call in the official’s hands. Nothing we can do about it.”
