Former NHLer Nick Boynton -- who, on Wednesday, was involved in an altercation at a Buffalo casino -- has been given a leave of absence from his gig as Arizona’s radio color analyst, the Coyotes have announced.

More, from the club:

Early this morning, Coyotes radio color analyst Nick Boynton was involved in a situation at a Buffalo casino.

A police investigation is underway. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and until the continuing legal process is completed, we will have no further comment.

Mr. Boynton has been placed on a leave of absence.

Boynton, 36, appeared in over 600 games for the Bruins, Coyotes, Panthers, Ducks, Blackhawks and Flyers prior to transitioning into his current media gig (Boynton’s in his first season in the booth). According to the Buffalo News, he’s alleged to have fought with police officers -- and apparently bit one -- that were stationed at the Buffalo Creek Casino for security purposes Wednesday evening.

“He was abusive to staff at the casino,” a police source told the News. “When officers tried to take him into custody, he bit one of them on the finger.”

The Coyotes are in Buffalo for tonight’s game against the Sabres.
