Jacob Trouba was just throwing the puck out front, hoping someone would get their stick on it. The play didn’t go quite as planned, but it still worked.
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly deflected the puck into his own net, putting the Winnipeg Jets on the board and tying the game at 1-1. Trouba played the puck off the end boards after the initial shot missed the net. Jonathan Bernier wasn’t quite back into position when Trouba fired the puck out front, and Rielly inadvertently tipped it into the partially open net.
Rielly’s reaction says it all.
