Ottawa Senators v Montreal Canadiens

Matt Puempel should get a chance to show what he can do in the NHL after the Ottawa Senators announced that he’s been recalled.

Puempel has 12 goals and 32 points in 51 games with the AHL Binghamton Senators this season. He’s in his second full season with Binghamton after being taken with the 24th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The 22-year-old forward could make his NHL debut on Saturday and help fill the void left by Clarke MacArthur, who is on the sidelines after crashing into goaltender Robin Lehner during Monday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

With a 23-23-10 record, the Senators are nine points shy of the second Wild Card seed Boston Bruins. The chances of Ottawa overcoming that gap this late in the season are slim, but they still have a glimmer of hope.
