Video: Demers punches unsuspecting McLeod after getting lip sliced open

Demers punch

Stars defenseman Jason Demers and Avalanche forward Cody McLeod weren’t available for the better part of the final frame of Colorado’s 4-1 win over Dallas after an incident during a television timeout.

McLeod got Demers with a punch following a brief shoving match behind Colorado’s net. That seemed to burst open Demers’ lip, which already had stitches in it, and caused the blueliner to bleed all over the ice as he skated around. After circling the ice a bit, Demers skated towards the benches and punched McLeod, who wasn’t anticipating the blow.

You can see that incident below:

Demers was assessed a misconduct and two minutes for roughing while McLeod was charged with his second fighting major of the night, a misconduct, and a game misconduct. After the game, Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said McLeod has been “outstanding for the last month or so” and praised his intensity, per the Denver Post’s Mike Chambers.
