The Adirondack Flames are in a fight just to make the playoffs in the American Hockey League’s Western Conference. The Syracuse Crunch are the top team in the Eastern Conference.
So, that is one among numerous reasons why Tuesday’s result was kind of shocking from the outsider’s perspective.
The Flames, AHL affiliate to Calgary’s NHL team, shutout the Crunch by a final score of 10-0 -- on only 27 shots, according to the game sheet. Sven Baertschi had the hat trick. Tough night for Syracuse goalies Allen York and Kristers Gudlevskis.
Since 1997, there have been six @TheAHL games decided by 10+ goals. Syracuse has now lost three of them.
