Sidney Crosby

ADVANCE FOR WEEKEND EDITIONS, OCT. 4-5 - FILE - In this Oct. 1, 2014, file photo, Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby (87) skates against the Detroit Red Wings in the first period of a NHL preseason hockey game in Detroit. A changing of the guard appears to be in store for the NHL with new, young faces _ Steven Stamkos in Tampa Bay, Gabriel Landeskog in Colorado and don’t forget the Toews and Kane tandem in Chicago or Drew Doughty in L.A. _ already stepping into the limelight as the NHL prepares to open the 2014-15 season. Sidney Crosby snapped a six-game goalless drought with a highlight-reel marker Friday night.

The Penguins captain re-directed a Chris Kunitz feed, one-handed, past Jonas Hiller for his 16th of the season.

Crosby added his second of the night in the third period forcing Bob Hartley to make a goaltending change.

After allowing four goals on 24 shots, Hiller was replaced by Karri Ramo
