Flyers recall Brandon Manning and Oliver Lauridsen

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled defensemen Brandon Manning and Oliver Lauridsen from the American Hockey League’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms the club announced.

The transaction is a result of upper body injuries to Nick Schultz and Carlo Colaiacovo suffered in Monday’s 7-4 loss to the New York Islanders.

The Flyers play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in their final game prior to the all star break. Philadelphia won the only other meeting in the battle of Pennsylvania 5-3 on Oct. 22.

Schultz will not play Tuesday while Colaiacovo is questionable.

Flyers’ GM Ron Hextall, who has been looking for defensive help since Andrew MacDonald and Braydon Coburn were injured in October, will have to rely on patchwork blue line once again.

Manning, 24, has appeared in two games for the Flyers this season recording an assist while averaging 11:45 in ice time.

This is Lauridsen’s first call up since the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season. The 25-year-old recorded two goals and an assist in 15 games that season with the Flyers.

The Penguins will look to avoid a third straight loss tonight when they visit Philadelphia.
